What’s “copywriting”? 


The shortest definition of copywriting is writing for the purpose of advertising or publicity. In the olden days (wink, wink), copywriters wrote tv, radio, or newspaper ads. In the internet age, almost everything an organization or business writes is copy. Customers - and donors - expect the brands they follow to be highly visible and to provide them with lots of free content - things like blogs, videos, podcasts, freebies, social media posts, and more. This is known as content marketing. All of your content and communications are nurturing a relationship with the reader that hopefully leads to a sale or a donation.

Actually, the very fact that you’re so close to your mission may be hindering your communications strategy. This is called the Curse of Knowledge. You need an outsider’s perspective to cut through the noise of your expertise about your cause and see it the way your donors do. 


My outsider’s perspective + listening/writing skills = more $$ for your org than doing it on your own. 


I need something written, but I’m not sure I need a monthly package.

Totally get it. I offer website copy and content, email copy, and storytelling services

Do you do web design? 

Nope. I can offer suggestions and chat with your web designer about making sure my copy and her design are complementary, but I do not design websites or upload my copy to your site. I format my copy for readability and SEO, which makes it easy to copy and paste directly into your site. 

Do you offer social media management?

No, I do not. I do write social media posts and ads.


I strongly suggest that every business and nonprofit prioritize website content and email marketing over social media. The marketing data backs that strategy up, and creating content for social media becomes easy-peasy when you’ve got loads of website content to draw on. 

Other things to consider:

  • You don’t own your social media content. The platform does. You don’t control who sees your content. The platform does. You don’t control the algorithm. The platform does. With website and email content, you are in control.

  • Not everyone is on social media, and many folks (myself included) have very conflicted feelings about it.

  • Email is way more personal than social media. If you’re serious about nurturing your donors, you need to get serious about emails. I can make it happen. 

What about website and email data analytics?

This is SUPER important, and especially if I’ve written your copy, I have a vested interest in seeing that it performs well! If you’re not already set up with Google Analytics, I can help get it set up for a small ($50) fee in conjunction with a contract/package that includes web copy. Email data analytics are built into every ESP. In both cases, we can add data analysis and strategy to my monthly services after 3 months.
